Why choose corporate cooking classes for team building in London?

Grande_cuisine_de_saison_popin
When planning corporate events in London it is important to find an activity which staff will really enjoy. Whether you are looking for an event which suits 12 or 120 staff, team building must be enjoyable to be effective, because it is often only relaxed staff who will communicate and participate freely. Corporate cooking classes offer just that.

Enjoyable

Corporate cooking classes are fun, exciting and make a dynamic change from the regular corporate events in London. Your business will not only benefit from undergoing an effective team building activity, but your staff will thank you for doing so in such an enjoyable way, and in a task which gives them new knowledge to take home afterwards too.

Effective

You understand that team building is important; team dynamics create the foundation for success after all. Cooking classes are a unique and original group activity which encourages communication, interaction and teamwork. Few environments are better than the kitchen for highlighting the importance of working as a group, and it is in each member of the groups interests to work well as a team... they will be eating the meal after all!

You can host your corporate cooking event in London for any size of group you require, which may then be subdivided into smaller cooking groups to encourage teamwork on a closer level. Each job in preparation of a dish may be carried out by one or two members of each group, allowing for leadership development within the group.

Universal appeal

Corporate cooking classes offer something for everyone. Whether your staff consider themselves novices in the kitchen or fancy themselves as culinary experts, a cooking class which is led by an expert chef will appeal to everyone.

With a range of recipes to suit everyone and the ability to create a tailored menu or branded cocktails, as well as your choice of date, time and class length, cooking is one of the most versatile corporate events in London. Simply discuss your needs with the operations team at your cooking school and allow them to create an event which is really tailored to your company and guests.

For the few who really do not enjoy cooking, an advantage is that culinary cooking classes offer two team building exercises in one; the actual cooking and the dining with colleagues afterwards. A cook and dine experience allows your staff to enjoy their meal after their team building exercise is completed, nurturing their relationships further in more relaxed settings.

What should I look for?

Clearly you need to choose a venue which is well-rehearsed in hosting such corporate events in London. Look for an experienced cooking school with an impressive state-of-the-art building which is well-equipped to host your event and based in an attractive location. Choose corporate cooking classes in London which are led by chefs who have held senior positions in successful Michelin Star rated kitchens - they are already used to creating effective working teams.

You may also want to look for a corporate cooking classes provider which offers competition tasks. There is nothing like a friendly competition for bringing groups together and promoting team interaction. Corporate events in London should offer an element of competition, and this is done in corporate cooking classes through intra departmental challenges or a chefs cooking challenge.

Latelier des Chefs is a London cooking school situated in the heart of the West End, with a new Fosters Lane kitchen set to open in the City in May. As experienced corporate events hosts, their teams of chefs and event planners are experts at providing fun and effective team building cooking classes, as well as hosting PR and press events and corporate hospitality.

Solar electric panels: a answer to the predictable energy crisis?

Britain, its population, as well as the planet are in trouble. On a micro scale British houses are usually paying increasingly bigger sums for their standard energy demands, whilst on a macro level the earth will soon find itself in the middle of an energy crisis which results from the diminishment of its fossil fuel resources. This article looks at the problem, and analyses possible solutions.

The problem

It's been predicted that by 2015 Britain’s power making capacity could in fact be decreased as much as thirty per-cent as its fossil fuel as well as nuclear energy stations are closed down. Exactly why exactly is this? One particular rationale is that Britain was relatively far ahead of its time when it came to nuclear power and consequently created power stations which are right now becoming increasingly hazardous and call for decommissioning. Many might ask why this is a problem, as surely more could be constructed? Unfortunately whilst on paper nuclear energy provides a high powered means to fix Britain’s and even the world’s energy needs, it is both expensive and increasingly viewed as unstable. The recent explosion in Japan for instance has seen Germany halt its nuclear programme permanently and it has guided other nations to look at the power resource with increased suspicion. The second reason why Britain is soon to face an energy crisis is that like the rest of the world, it is actually at the mercy of the reality that there is only a limited volume of natural resources just like oil coal and gas which may be utilised. We're by now experiencing the consequences of this each month with ever increasing utility costs highlighting the growing scarcity and cost of discovering and unearthing fossil fuels. Prices will continue to increase as demand escalates and supply decreases. Even though some Western nations have committed to becoming environmentally friendly, they have generally tried to decrease their usage of fossil fuels without at the same time improving their dependence on environment friendly technology to the same extent, thus creating an asymmetry.

The solution

On the broadest of levels the solution is to use environmentally friendly and more sustainable technology. On a more specific level, the most effective solution at a domestic and commercial level may be utilising solar electricity by using solar photo-voltaic panels. Solar photo-voltaic panels convert light into electricity which in turn feeds the electrical circuits in your home, company, factory or farm. As long as there is light the photo-voltaic cells will perform, meaning that they will run successfully no matter if it is cloudy. These results can be achieved by fitting a solar panel installation to the roof of the planned building. The advantages of making this sort of move are evident. Through fitting panels you have a continual supply of solar electric and that means you won’t be having to pay for the electricity you’d normally be obtaining from the national grid. There will always be light so long as the sun is out there meaning that there is not any risk of this power source depleting, unlike fossil fuels. Additionally, on an environmental stage if a lot more people do this then there will be significantly less pressure on fossil fuels and a genuine change to a much more eco friendly power resource may very well be engineered. The straightforward logic behind this kind of a move and the utilisation of solar panel installations for making solar electricity has been recognised by the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change who've been tasked with checking out and putting into action technologies which will help solve the upcoming energy crises and ecological consequences that follow. If people do start using solar panels and solar electricity therefore the energy problems could possibly be weakened and the environment could be helped. In this manner solar power and the solar electricity photovoltaic cells create could be the response to Britain’s and indeed the world’s energy woes.

The author works strongly with Solar Days, who deliver premium solar panel installations, and thus aiding homes, farms and businesses generate their very own solar electricity.

How does solar electricity work?

Computer health and safety when using display screen equipment

To the untrained eye the phrase ‘Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Training’ sounds like it could be something to do with learning about fixing computers. But don’t be fooled by the words! DSE training is for anyone who regularly uses a computer.

In January 1993 The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 came into effect. The DSE regulations aim to protect regular uses of display screen equipment. The computer health and safety display screen regulations even apply to employees who work from home if they sit at a screen for a good part of their work.

Of course, using a screen should not be considered as really dangerous. In fact there has been a great deal of ICT health and safety studies carried out, for example into how a computer may affect eyesight, and the results show there’s no evidence that it causes disease or permanent damage to eyes. Most computer health and safety concerns are to do with posture and planning. A relatively high number of DSE workers, particularly those who haven’t carried out DSE training, complain about aches and pains, eyestrain and headaches.

Aches and pains from poor posture can affect the fingers, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders and backs. They are sometimes called repetitive strain injuries (RSI), and they are a type of musculoskeletal disorder (MSD). If nothing is done to help, and staff aren’t given DSE training, these aches and pains may well become serious. Poor typing position or bashing the keys too hard, not taking enough breaks and not changing task regularly are all possible factors in RSI type injuries and early action is important.

Headaches and eyestrain may be exacerbated by screen glare from a poorly positioned computer screen, incorrect contrast on the screen, screen characters which are too small or not in sharp focus or spending too long looking at the screen without a break. Stress can also lead to tension headaches.

Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that although work-related MSDs are on the decrease, they still make up an alarming proportion of the work-related illnesses each year. Over 1million people suffered a work-related illness last year, of which nearly half were musculoskeletal disorders. MSDs are not only the result of computer use of course, other factors such as poor manual handling technique also plays a part.

It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to avoid computer health and safety problems. Just a few simple adjustments may be all that’s needed to eliminate health concerns and meet display screen regulations. With good posture, a well laid-out and well-positioned workstation, regular breaks and, if possible, the ability to change or alternate tasks during the course of the day many of the problems will be alleviated.

For example, a few adjustments to seating and posture may stop that gradual build-up of pain across the shoulders, or in the small of the back. The chair should be adjustable to allow it to be the correct height for the desk, and legs should be able to move comfortably. The chair back should also tilt and adjust up and down to a position to support the small of the back securely.

Once the chair is comfortable then think about how to sit. It’s important to keep the curves in the back in alignment - that means no slumping, stretching or twisting - and this could mean rearranging the things on the desk and in the immediate vicinity to a more logical position (the things used most should be the easiest to get at). Again, comparing to the layout of a car - the positioning of everything around the driver has had a lot of thought put into it - everything is in easy reach - partially to avoid the driver looking away from the road but also to avoid awkward stretching - even the controls for the sound system are often duplicated on the steering wheel.

Perhaps, similar to a motorway ‘take a break’ should flash up at intervals on the computer screen of regular users!

A simple adjustment to the workday or workstation can greatly reduce the gradual build up of pain and tension. DSE training discusses these adjustments in further detail, and helps employers meet display screen equipment regulations. DSE training isn’t expensive or time-consuming, and choosing DSE training with a DSE assessment at the end will give employers the proof to show computer health and safety officials what staff have learnt.

A concise, easy-to-follow, 30-minute DSE training course is available from The Interactive Health and Safety Company (iHasco). Visit their website and sample their Display Screen Equipment training programme, which includes a full personal DSE assessment.

Choose a conference centre in Edinburgh for that extra help

Are you in the middle of planning an event in Edinburgh but are struggling to find the perfect venue to accommodate all of your guests? You cannot just choose any old location; you must first consider many variables that will determine exactly what it is you want out of your chosen venue. Firstly and most importantly, you need to know how many people will be attending your event so that you can choose a venue which will accommodate all of your guests.

Underestimating the number of people at your event would be a serious faux pas. This could lead to a shortage of chairs meaning people have to cram into the back of the room. Large numbers of people would be overheating the room and blocking fire exits, meaning that your event would not only gain a bad reputation, but it would also be breaking health and safety regulations.

To make the process easier, some conference venues in Edinburgh offer services to help you with organising your event. You can really take the pressure off your shoulders by utilising these services. It will free up your time and allow you to concentrate on other more important aspects of organising your event. A typical service that is offered by a conference centre in Edinburgh is technical support. However if you were to choose a conference venue that offers technical support, you would have no need to panic. In the unfortunate event that a technical glitch did take place, a resolution would be found quickly and efficiently by professionals. You may require a large conference room to train a group of people in matters such as health and safety for instance. It is therefore essential to choose a venue in Edinburgh that can provide you with training services and an ideal room to suit this purpose.

You must be able to accommodate such a large group of people, with plenty of additional space in case your training involves role play. And of course, if your event will be lasting all day, your attendees will require food and drink to refuel. Some conference centres in Edinburgh have in-house catering staff that can provide you with your chosen selection of food. Whether your guests have special dietary requirements or you want your food to reflect the theme of your event, these venues will be happy to listen to your ideas and will tailor the food to meet your needs. Just when you think that your event is sorted, an admin issue will crop up.

For instance, you may realise that you do not have enough copies of your hand-outs or a package that you are expecting still hasn’t arrived. Amongst the other services they have to offer, certain conference centres in Edinburgh will offer you help with these admin tasks. Just ask and they will give you 100 photocopies of your hand-out or chase the courier up for you to find out the whereabouts of your package. Whatever needs your event requires, choosing a conference centre that can offer you these simple yet supportive services can really help to take the pressure off you. You can rest assured that, when the day of your event finally arrives, your organising has been thorough and assisted by an extremely helpful venue.

For healthy skin, choose organic skin care products

Weve all be there; youre right in the middle of your teen years and on top of the stresses of school, hobbies, friends and the opposite sex, youre also beginning to get blemishes over your skin Over the years we have seen hundreds of creams, oils, facial scrubs, wipes and lotions all suggesting they can cure our blemish problems, with each product offering a different kind of treatment depending on our daily routine and needs. But lets face it if youve got acne or blemish prone skin you want to get rid of it and you want it gone as quickly and easily as possible. Finally, weve got the answers! Acne and blemishes affect some people worse than others, of course as a teen if youre affected worse than your friends and peers you want to know...why me?

Many people say that acne is just an unfortunate skin condition and there is no reason why some teens suffer from it and others dont Although this may be partly true, there are also reasons why your skin may be worse than other suffers and believe it or not your lifestyle might actually be affecting your skin! If you dont regularly change your pillowcase or towel they could be covered in harmful bacteria, which can get into the pores of your skin and irritate them Eating or drinking too much sugar or junk food, ok we all need a treat once in a while but if your diet consists of these items on a day to day basis then un-healthy toxins could be getting to your pores and affecting your skin.

Touching or leaning on your face too much, again this is a difficult one, on a tiring day at school or work it can be very tempting to lean your head on your hand, but touching your face can spread any bacteria you may have picked up into your pores Keeping both your hair and face completely clean each day will also help reduce the blemishes, as well as taking any make-up off as soon as possible. Acne is a condition of the skin that shows up several different types of spots such as, black heads, white heads, pimples and cysts.

Therefore, there are technically loads of products out there suggesting they could solve these problems. However, try not to be tempted to use all of them, with skin problems you should always go for the less is more approach, so stick to one product and wash regularly with warm water Also, do not be tempted to try and pop and spots, this can push infections back into the skin and anger your pores, resulting in even more redness! Remember also, acne is only temporary and picking your spots may result in scaring.

Unfortunately acne isnt always restricted to your face, anywhere on your body has the potential to suffer from blocked pores and break out with spots and blemishes Many suffers can get acne on their back, which can be problematic particularly in the summer when youre more exposed to the sun, as tanning has been known to worsen acne, rather than mask it like most people think. It can be confusing, especially with the thousands of skin care products on the market all claiming they can do the same thing

So why not revitalise and detox your body, enriching your skin by choosing a product devised by experts who have been there and know exactly what youre going through, rather than using products filled with chemicals that have the potential to worsen your problem, choose an organic and natural source.

Green People Organic Lifestyle, were established through a mother helping her young daughter to overcome her problems with eczema and severe skin allergies. Pigeon Pest Control

The bird species with the most common economic concern in the London area is the feral pigeon. These birds are about 30 cm long and they can vary greatly in colour, however they are normally known to have fawn-grey colourings.

Why do I need bird proofing and pigeon deterrents?

The majority of us who live in cities and large towns across the UK will know that pigeons can be a nuisance. Their fouling has been known to cause damage and deface buildings making them look dirty and shabby. This is why bird proofing and pigeon deterrents are essential tools. The fouling of these birds can carry diseases such as Ornithosis (a viral disease similar to the flu) and Salmonella bacteria.

Their nests are often hidden in and around large cities and can harbour insects and mites which often migrate from the nest to other parts of the building. Birds’ nests can be the initial source of many of the insect problems experienced in and around cities. These include obvious insect pests such as pigeon fleas and mites and can also include carpet beetles, case bearing clothes moths, biscuit beetles and flies. Put together these pests are increasing the spread of communicable diseases therefore bird proofing methods are essential.

Bird proofing methods available

There are a wide variety of different bird proofing methods available for pigeons. However, it is advisable to contact your local pest control. All well established high quality pest control services offer a free survey, assessing the scale of your problem and the possible methods available. Usually prevention via the use of netting and/or fine metal spikes, or sprung wires are the most effective forms of pigeon deterrents. Stainless steel pigeon spikes, wires and bird repellent gels can be purchased online, however it’s a good idea to save time and make sure your tools are installed effectively by enlisting the help of your local pest control experts.

For repelling birds away from businesses there are many high tech tools available including laser bird repellers, which are ideal for protecting large buildings and warehouses as they can cover up to 10,000 of space. They also prevent false alarm triggers of burglar alarms caused by pigeons flying around your property at night. Ultra sonic bird deterrents on the other hand are ideal for balconies as they are battery powered and offer continuous protection by emitting sound pressure that temporarily affects the ear and nervous system of the bird. This sound is virtually silent to humans and can cover up to 900 square feet of space.

As well as installing these bird proofing tools, your local pest control will clean and remove any pigeon fowling that has defaced your premises. However, under health and safety guidelines, before commencing any cleaning work, the contaminated area must be sprayed with a joint biocide/insecticide, to destroy any disease organisms and/or insect pests that are present. This spray therefore protects both you and our staff from possible contamination.

For more information about bird proofing or to enquire about any pest problems contact your local pest control services.

Keep your carpet spotless by using carpet cleaning shampoo and stain removal products

It is a fact of life that accidents happen. Mud can be traipsed into the house on the bottom of our shoes and drinks can be spilled all over the floor. If you have a light coloured carpet, stains and dirt can often be the thing of nightmares. But the inevitable shouldn’t mean that you have to change how you want your house to look. If you, or your family, are prone to spillages and other little accidents, simply investing in some carpet stain removal products can take away the constant worries and concerns that come with owning a light coloured carpet.

Picture it now; you’ve just bought your brand new cream carpet and you’ve got a bunch of friends round, each with a glass of red wine on the go - it’s an accident waiting to happen! But you may be surprised to know that some brands of carpet stain removal promise to remove red wine stains as easily as they would with lighter coloured stains, such as white wine for example! Stains are slowly lifted to the surface when carpet stain removal products penetrate deep into the affected materials. By working the product into the centre of the stain and then rinsing thoroughly, the affected area will look as good as new. Most carpet stain removal products also contain a lightly scented fragrance as well.

This is usually a fresh scent such as lemon, helping you to mask any lasting smells that may be protruding from the affected area. The comings and goings of everyday life may mean that your carpet is starting to look particularly grimy lately. You’ve tried hoovering and sweeping the place, but the colour of the carpet is just not the same as it was when you first bought it. Whilst carpet stain removal products work better on immediate accidents, there are also products available which can just give your carpet a good general clean.

Carpet cleaning shampoo is suitable for use on bigger areas and if you want to go as far as cleaning entire rooms, it is possible to buy or rent a professional carpet cleaning machine. These products can do such a thorough job that people may think you have had a new carpet fitted! As with carpet stain removal products, most carpet cleaning shampoos are lightly-fragranced. But you are more likely to notice this when using the shampoo due to the fact that it is generally used on much bigger areas.

As well as keeping your house clean, using carpet cleaning shampoo may even help to improve your health if you are prone to contracting regular colds. Whilst you may think that you have contracted your recent cold from having bare feet on the kitchen floor, or going outside with wet hair straight after taking a shower, you may not even consider that you could have attained it from your own carpet. Just as with everything else in the home, a carpet can collect dust and turn into an extremely appealing home for dust mites.

These can lead to the causes of various illnesses, as most people are allergic to dust mites; when these little creatures die, we are essentially inhaling their remains. By regularly using carpet cleaning shampoo, and carpet stain removal products as and when they are required, you will help to keep your carpet clean and safe for you and your family.

Rug Doctor is a professional company that specialises in carpet cleaning products. Whilst they are more famously known for their professional carpet cleaning machine of the same name, they also produce other handy-sized carpet cleaning solutions that can be easily stored away in the home with your other cleaning and disinfectant products. If you have recently bought a cream carpet and you want to be on the safe side, visit their website today to invest in some of their powerful cleaning products. Professional carpet cleaning products
